COASTAL CAROLINA CAMELLIA SOCIETY
2019 / 2020

Miss Charleston Variegated
C. japonica 'Miss Charleston Variegated'

The Coastal Carolina Camellia Society is a local society in the Charleston, South Carolina area affiliated with the American Camellia Society. Members usually meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. from August to April with a refreshment time before the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Members are asked to bring a dish to share if you are able.

Meetings consist of the care of camellias and include such things as grafting, air layering, pruning, and applying gibberellic acid to obtain earlier and larger camellia blooms. We have different speakers each month. The club is also getting involved in other projects in the community. We have many fun things planned for the upcoming year including a project with Hampton Park, camellia plant sales, a fun summer picnic and plant auction, an oyster roast in the works for the fall, and planning for our next camellia show which is normally held on the fourth Saturday in January. Our 2020 show had over 1,400 blooms entered! It was absolutely stunning.

Currently our club meets at Essex Village Church of Christ (unless otherwise indicated) at 736 Savage Road, Charleston, SC. Please join us and get to know a great group of people.

Our next club show will be held on January 23, 2021 at the Danny Jones Armory Complex at 5000 Lackawanna Boulevard, North Charleston, SC. Blooms are accepted for entry beginning at 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Judging begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. so come early to enter your blooms. There is no entry fee, and everyone is welcome. Club members will be on hand to assist newcomers. If you are interested in bringing and entering flowers to be judged at the show you may obtain a show schedule with rules for bloom entry by contacting the club at: CoastalCarolinaCamelliaSociety@gmail.com
